I have been asked all the same questions as well. I think it’s funny that because we were raised in a generation where you go to college and work, if we have the option to stay at home it’s always a problem. I remember when my husband was about to start his job the plan was I stay home and go to school full time after 7 years of community college and not being able to take more than 1 or 2 classes at a time and full time work, my in laws kept saying you need to get a job, you have to work and I was like, does nobody care that I want to finish school. It’s ridiculous how involved people think they need to be in your life. I totally understand!
June 10, 2016 at 11:58 am
Our generation is definitely different than the ones before us, I agree! Thankfully, both our families were very supportive about our situation, or it would have been even more difficult. If something works for you and your family, and you feel like that’s what God is leading you to, then I say go for it! If finishing school is what was right for y’all, then way to go! 🙂

All I can say is continue to be obedient! I took a break from the classroom to now a living room of four children and a husband. It’s the best job I’ve ever had!

Well done! You could take a look at sashiko. Japanese mending and reinforcing done by hand. Often uneven stitches, variations in fabric (though usually indigo, at least historically), very utilitarian and always beautiful. Simplest stitches, great results.

A little pizza never hurt anyone.
False fire alarms are annoying. The one time I had a grease fire in my oven the alarm didn’t go off.
June 20, 2016 at 1:38 pm
Hey Elle! I absolutely agree about the pizza! I’m even craving leftovers today! 😉 Oh my goodness, that sounds just like a smoke alarm! Never actually working when you need them! I hope no one was hurt!

My husband put out the fire in a few minutes. Our dinner was ruined but a small price to pay for being safe and nothing else damaged.
June 20, 2016 at 2:01 pm
Wow! What a story! I am so glad your husband was able to put the fire out and keep everyone and everything safe! Dinner can be replaced, but people sure can’t!

June 23, 2016 at 4:30 pm
Thanks so much, Harley! I absolutely love my oils and they work for everything! I got some mosquito bites the other night, put melaleuca and lavender oil on them, and by morning, they were totally gone! If you ever have any questions, I’d love to answer them (or at least try to!). 🙂

Have you ever used doTerra?
June 23, 2016 at 4:34 pm
No, I haven’t. I use Melaleuca because that’s where get all of our health products and I am confident that their products are high quality. I haven’t done much research into doTerra.

June 29, 2016 at 4:15 pm
Thanks, Rachel! I think that’s something that God wants to reveal to us in days like this, that beauty comes from what He has placed inside of us! 🙂
June 29, 2016 at 7:06 pm
This post really resonated with me.
Two years ago, I enrolled in law school. I come from a family of lawyers so it was pretty much a no-brainer that I’d follow in their footsteps. I did well, but I lacked the excitement that you talked about, the feeling of peace with my decision despite being scared and uneasy. Then halfway into my second year, a got a job offer with the foreign ministry of the country I live in. I was scared about quitting law school – I was REALLY scared – but I was also excited because foreign service was what I originally wanted to when I graduated from college. So I felt all of that, scared, uneasy, afraid, and a dozen other synonyms for fear. But I also felt a measure of peace because I knew that this was what I wanted. So I did it. I quit law school and took the job and I am SO much happier now.
Thank you for writing this. ♥

Oh, Kate, what a beautiful story! I absolutely relate to your story! I come from a family of educators, so teaching seemed to be the perfect career! Many were surprised when I chose to leave, but it was the absolute best decision for us! 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing!

I love these! My favorites are “enjoy the honeymoon stage” and “say I love you.” I’m so obnoxious about saying it to my husband 1,000 times a day. And I always want kisses! But I feel like that’s what keeps the love alive in a way, and I want him to know how much I care about him.
July 5, 2016 at 9:00 am
Thanks so much, Emily! I’m the same way with my husband! 🙂 I absolutely agree that it keeps the love alive! And it’s super fun! 🙂

Great tips! I was on vacation for most of June and I struggled with making healthy choices. Sometimes it’s hard, especially when you’re on the road for many hours! I usually just try to watch my portions and, when I can, choose the healthier option. For example, at McDonalds, I’ll get a fruit and yogurt parfait instead of the sausage McMuffin!
July 7, 2016 at 11:53 am
I totally agree, Emily! It is a struggle, especially when driving!! Portions and healthy choices are where it’s at! When we have to stop to eat somewhere, we try to stop at Subway or somewhere they offer mostly healthy options! It helps us make smart choices! 🙂
July 7, 2016 at 6:02 pm
Walking! This is why I love vacationing in large cities. I find it the hardest when we’re spending a lot of time in the car or possibly visiting family where you tend to spend time “hanging out”.
July 7, 2016 at 6:36 pm
YES! Perfect, Catherine! 🙂 We love walking, anywhere and everywhere on vacation! That is so hard when it’s a long trip, and you’re right about family! I love ’em, but I gotta move! 😉
July 8, 2016 at 7:31 am
Happy 100+ days!! I believe the honeymoon stage doesn’t have to end, but I certainly plan on enjoying it for years to come. 🙂 I actually published a post titled “Marriage Is Easy,” inspired by something my husband always says, some months ago. I can’t stand the “just you wait” kind of attitude, the seeming inevitability of falling out of love. It’s not inevitable. Love is a choice, and it’s a choice I keep making–it’s the fun choice, after all. 🙂
July 8, 2016 at 11:05 am
Thanks, Rachel! I absolutely agree! You can stay in the honeymoon stage as long as you want! 🙂 It’s disappointing that so many people think that marriage has to be this hard, unhappy union. It doesn’t! It’s meant to be great! I love your thoughts on this! 🙂

These are all great! I’d add that it’s important to talk through things that might seem smaller because you have the rest of your lives for those things to potentially grown into big things. It’s important to try to discern what really is little and can be let go, but what needs to be discussed.
July 8, 2016 at 11:06 am
Absolutely, Abby! That’s a great point! 🙂 We try to talk through everything because if it ends up not being a big deal, then that’s an easy conversation. But if it is important, then we need to take care of it! Great point! 🙂

I love this! I’m a newlywed, too. We got married in November. A lot of these points ring true for us, too. I especially love what you said about #6, don’t stress the little things. I read the book “Things I Wish I’d Known Before I Got Married” by Gary Chapman and he has a chapter about those little things and how instead of getting bitter and angry about how your spouse never closes the dresser drawers or puts his shoes away, you should just decide it’s your job and happily put them away. My husband does small things like that but I’ve made a conscious decision to not let it get to me!
July 9, 2016 at 10:14 am
YES, YES YES! I 100% agree, Jenna! Perfect! That is wonderful advice! In the words of Elsa, just let it go! 😉

Awesome list! Thanks for sharing these. I love these songs, actually Christian Music is all I listen to. Stars from Skillet also has a catchy beat to it too. Did you know there are sources to be able to some free Christian Music? I have compiled a list at http://www.courageouschristianfather.com/free-christian-music-downloads/
God tells us to not be afraid. We shouldn’t fear what man may do to us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. I do like 2 Timothy 1:7. That was a Bible verse theme for VBS a couple years or so ago. Again, God Bless and thanks for sharing these songs.

I really love this post. I’m just about to begin my 2nd year of teaching high school English (fingers crossed – currently job hunting), and I agree with these lessons. Especially how words matter and character counts. I think it’s important for teachers to lead by example by being kind, positive, and steadfast. I strive to embody those characteristics, and I hope they can rub off on my students.
July 13, 2016 at 1:54 pm
Aw, thank you so much, Emily!! 🙂 It sounds like you have a beautiful heart for your students! Teachers can make a huge difference in the lives of their students, and I believe that is absolutely true for you! Good luck job hunting! 🙂

July 30, 2016 at 6:00 am
I’ve heard of people doing this occasionally, but I think it’s really cool how you made it into a true side job that pays for a need within your budget! When I was in college I had a variety of random little side jobs–writing articles for magazines and ironing clothes for a lady (she hired separate people for other cleaning jobs–my one job at her place was ironing clothes for a couple hours a week). I’m not the fastest of typists, but I’m a really good and fast ironer (with 9 people in my family, and no dryer when we were growing up, I had a LOT of ironing experience, haha!).
These days I guess doing private tuition is my ‘side hustle’–although I feel like I do it more just because so many of these kids could really use the extra help than for the income. I tutor English and SAT prep–we live in SE Asia and a lot of teens are trying to prep to go to college in English-speaking countries and they have a lot of work to do to get ready! I love connecting with the teens and sharing my love for English grammar and obscure vocabulary. 😛 This school year I already have 4 nights a week of tuition penned into my calendar–and the school year hasn’t started yet so I’m kinda hoping no one else asks me because I don’t like saying no….but I don’t want to be too crazy busy…
July 30, 2016 at 10:07 am
Thanks, Rachel! That’s so awesome that you’ve been able to find those side jobs! 🙂 You’re one step ahead of me; I can’t iron to save my life! As a former teacher, I love that you’re doing private tutoring and getting them ready for the SAT! Education is so important, and you are making such a difference! 🙂

Thanks, Abbey. Some great ideas here & to come back to.
Just a hint/question: please can you translate (24) for those of us outside USA. There is no way we understand the eccentric way you measure things. Do you weight yourselves in stones or something? And how big is an ounce? What is the calculation for the rest of us who use the simple metric system?
August 1, 2016 at 3:59 pm
Hi Bosco! Thanks for reading! Here in America, we weigh ourselves in pounds! If you’re looking for a conversion, you can go to Google and type in the amount of ounces, tell it what unit you would like it to convert to, and it will tell you exactly how much you need! 🙂

Thanks, Shann! I hadn’t thought of it either, but it just came to me one day! 🙂
Wow this is super chocked full of great tips and tricks! I love how you say to start with one area because overhauling your whole lifestyle can be a bit overwhelming. But I love living a healthy lifestyle and I know once you tackle one area you won’t be able to stop! 🙂

The best way to manage eating smaller meals more frequently is to learn to eat when you re hungry, stop eating when you re full and refrain from eating out of boredom or stress.

Not sure why people ever get angry with Netflix for their price. I mean, it is like £5 in the UK, right? Your cable TV would never be that cheap.
August 4, 2016 at 12:02 pm
I agree, Aleksandra! It’s around $8 in America, so that’s pretty similar! But I guess some people have just had some issues with it in the past! 🙂

This was a really interesting post. When it comes down to it, blogging and Netflix are all about the content creator and the target audience. Netflix has done a lot of amazing things. Really curious what they will do in the future. I’m a huge fan of Full House and Gilmore Girls, so I’m so happy they have rebooted both on Netflix. Looking forward to A Series of Unfortunate Events coming to Netflix this year.
August 4, 2016 at 4:01 pm
Thanks for reading, Candis! I absolutely agree about the content and the audience, and Netflix so gets that! They’re coming out with such awesome things that I know their future is bright! I haven’t checked out Fuller House yet, but I’m so excited for Gilmore Girls!! 🙂

Our sermon this Sunday was about this very subject! Our culture makes it seem like we are weird if we don’t go with the flow but we have to answer to God and do what is right in His sight. Thanks for sharing this great reminder.
August 9, 2016 at 10:00 am

I stopped watching Game of Thrones and Orange is The New Black BUT I still watch shows like The Bachelor and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. I know I can not pick and choose. I need to have a serious convo w/ GOD! 🙂 lol.

This is great! So inspiring! I always try to help my readers find the joy (or find the awesome, as you say) in their daily lives. It is so important to find positive aspects in even the worst situations. Otherwise, it is too easy to let the sadness and torment overwhelm your life. Life is too short to not celebrate the awesome! I went to the fair advertising student clubs on my first day of college and signed up for a Bible study and a missionary kid club–best decision ever. September 14, 2016 at 7:37 am
Great tips! I think it is super important to make sure you know what you can afford (without going house poor as you mentioned) before looking for that new home!
Thanks, Dana! I absolutely agree! You’re the only person that knows your finances, so you’ve got to make that decision yourself! 🙂
September 14, 2016 at 8:03 am
Great advice! I especially love the third one. Just because a bank or mortgage company says you can afford it does NOT mean you can. A car dealership once wanted to finance a $40,000 car for my husband and I when we weren’t even making that much combined in a year. Yeah, no. It’s your responsibility to know your own finances.
September 14, 2016 at 8:50 am
Thanks, Abby! Yes, girl! Absolutely! 🙂 Haha oh I feel ya there! Only you know what you can afford and it’s so important to stick to that! 🙂
September 14, 2016 at 8:17 am
Great tips! I was lucky enough to inherit my grandmas house but I’ve had so many friends get the most expensive house they could afford only to lose it because they couldn’t make those ridiculously high payments for 30+ years. It’s always wise to live well within your means 🙂 Congrats on the new house btw
September 14, 2016 at 8:51 am
Thank you, Melanie! That is wonderful that you were able to inherit a home. Sadly, so many people do go house poor and aren’t able to stay in their homes. It’s so important to make wise financial choices in the beginning! 🙂
September 14, 2016 at 9:08 am
We’re buying a home soon so these are great tips! Our city is very expensive and it’s so tempting to get into a big pretty house. But you’re right, it’s so not worth being house poor. I wanna be able to decorate our home and buy things we need! Thanks for this 🙂
September 14, 2016 at 9:21 am
Thanks, Tanea! Glad I could help! It’s definitely worth it to be reasonable with your budget and have money to still lead a good lifestyle! 🙂
September 14, 2016 at 9:13 am
I am so scared about the prospect of buying a house – especially in LA where I live. The market is terribly expensive, and the offerings are NOT what I want. I am being insanely picky, which I think is a good thing, I don’t just want to throw away money… But at times I feel like the fiance gets really impatient because he is dying to settle down and have projects.
September 14, 2016 at 9:22 am
It’s definitely one of the biggest decisions that you’ll make! Look for places you could compromise and hopefully you’ll be able to find a house that fits all of your needs and most of your wants! 🙂
Paige @ An Uncomplicated Life Blog
September 14, 2016 at 9:35 am
Yes to don’t go house poor! Everything costs far more than you think, so if you can barely swing a $250k mortgage you actually truly can’t afford the house because when your water heater, HVAC or main water line goes out, you’ll have no money in savings to pay for it. Love your tips! They’re spot on.

Amen, Paige, amen!!! That is so vitally important, and it’s a lesson that lots of people unfortunately have to learn the hard way! Thanks so much! 🙂

Yes, these are so important! When my husband and I were looking for a home, I could not believe how much the bank “approved” us for — it was definitely an amount we could not have truly afforded based on our budgets! It’s so important to not be romanced by that number. Good for you for making a wise decision!
September 15, 2016 at 9:41 am
Thanks, Brittany! 🙂 Isn’t it crazy how much money they’re willing to give you even if you can’t afford it?? Sounds like you made a wise decision, as well! 🙂

Forgiveness is a tenant we preach but don’t take seriously enough in our modern society I think. We need to spend more time looking at people’s hearts when they make mistakes, then judging them solely on the weight of their actions
Thank you for a lovely post 🙂

September 20, 2016 at 10:57 am
David has always been one of my favorite people in the Bible. We can learn so much from his story, and I’m ever striving to have a heart like that. It’s comforting to know that even though he screwed up so much that God still accepted him back. God sees our hearts and can see if we’re being genuine or not. Needed this encouragement today!
September 20, 2016 at 1:35 pm
I absolutely agree, Summer. God’s love is so good to us! I’m so glad that this touched your heart!

Why Christians Need To Start Prioritizing Faith Over Entertainment – Small Town Soul

All great points. I believe that it is important to align with whatever you feel is right due to your beliefs. That’s awesome that you are staying true to your beliefs when it comes to entertainment.
September 26, 2016 at 1:57 pm
Absolutely, Mistle! Thanks so much! 🙂
September 26, 2016 at 6:16 pm
I think there are things to be said on both sides of the entertainment debate for Christians–and you have to do what you’re convicted is right. My beliefs about entertainment might be slightly different–I watch something for i’s message, for its truth, and if there happens to be swear words or something I don’t want to hear/see, I’m okay with ignoring some things in favor of a truly worthwhile message.
I have Christian friends who walked out of the movie “Les Mis” when it came out in theaters, saying that they couldn’t believe the kind of filth Hollywood produces these days, that the movie glorified sin and glorified a sinful life. I’m a Christian, and walked out of the movie (at the end), in tears because of the beauty of the undeserved grace that the priest showed Jean ValJean and how it changed his life–and how Javert was lost because he couldn’t understand grace, he could only understand law. To me–yes, “Les Mis” portrays devastatingly sad, abusive, unjust, vulgar times, which really happened in the French Revolution, but in the midst of the darkness, it shows the power and light of grace.
In another example, I have Christian friends who borrowed our copy of “Schindler’s List” and then gave it back to us, telling us they were horrified and unable to watch the movie because of the nudity of the prisoners in the camp. To me, that movie is a heartbreaking story of a not-very-good man who was able to set aside his self-interest and save many, many people from certain death. It’s a good story and a true one. And, it’s a horrifying thing that prisoners during the Holocaust underwent many shameful and horrifying things, one of which was being made to strip out of their clothes–movies shouldn’t whitewash the Holocaust, they shouldn’t make it easier to watch or more palatable, at least in my opinion–it’s good that they remind us how truly horrifying that part of history was–something that should never, ever be forgotten.
To me, the message matters a little more than the specifics. Both “Slumdog Millionaire” and “The Hangover” portray horrifying, sinful things. But I’ll watch the first and allow my heart to break over the plight of street children in India, and I’ll learn what I can about the beggars that live on my own streets and how best to help them. The other…I’ll never watch because there’s no beauty, no genuinely good message or story, it’s just stupid sin.
For me, my faith definitely affects my entertainment choices–but it doesn’t always mean that I won’t watch something that happens to portray something yucky–to me, there’s a difference between portraying and promoting/glorifying. Some movies definitely promote/glorify sinful lifestyles–in my opinion, “Les Mis” is not one of those, thought it definitely portrays horrific happenings. And I’m with you on “How I Met Your Mother” or “Big Bang Theory”–to me, neither of those portray truth beautifully or only include vulgarity in a necessary or real way–to me, there’s no good reason to watch either show.
September 28, 2016 at 8:51 am
This is a BEAUTIFUL comment, Rachel! Thank you so much for sharing your insight! I struggle with watching movies that portray sin, whether they’re glorifying it or not, but I love your point about overlooking those things to take in the message of the film. The message is what truly matters about the movie, and it is what we should take to heart. This has challenged me, and I thank you so much for your words! 🙂

This is such a good point. Sometimes if I get into bed kinda late and know I don’t have long to read before I conk out I pick up my devotional book instead of the bible (guilty!!!)
Sometimes the bible can feel a bit heavy and requiring too much concentration…but I know that it is the most valuable thing we can read.
October 11, 2016 at 4:32 pm
Thank you, Megan! I think there are certainly times, when we’re tired or running late, that the devotional can suffice until we have a chance to read the Bible. It’s just when it becomes an everyday habit that I think it’s more of a cause for concern. It can be so difficult to dig through, but God is so willing to speak to our hearts. And all because He loves us! That’s what makes it so worth it! 🙂
October 11, 2016 at 10:00 pm

I stopped using devotionals ages ago. I found them irritating when they plopped a scripture down on them that had nothing to do with what they were talking about. I wanted that real connection to God’s word.
October 13, 2016 at 9:56 am
I can completely understand that, Annette! Your desire for God’s word is a wonderful thing! 🙂

When I saw the title from your post, my first thought was, “I hope she mentions how often people read devotionals instead of God’s Word” and it was your first point :).
At times I’ve compared devotionals to nutritional supplements: they aren’t meant to replace the “real” food.
While I can appreciate the place devotionals have played in people’s lives at times, it’s unfortunate how people will at times only read them, wanting something someone has already consumed and reproduced for them.
October 13, 2016 at 11:02 am
I’m glad I didn’t disappoint! Haha thanks, Scott! 🙂 I absolutely agree that they don’t replace the true Word of God! As you said, they have a place, but they can’t be our only nutrition! 🙂

Great tips Abbey! I haven’t tried any of these yet (well I’ve been an affiliate on a few things, but definitely have a lot more to learn and try!) so will definitely have to check out!

October 14, 2016 at 5:02 pm
I sure love it! Hope it works for you when you get a chance! 🙂
October 16, 2016 at 2:59 pm
Thanks for the post about this – I have thought about doing something like this before but it always sounded like it was hard to get your foot in the door to any kind of decent or regular work. This one sounds like they are really addressing that issue. So thanks for the share!
Also, side note – you may consider having a ‘popular posts’ on the side bar so people can find things. It looks like you have a lot on here but outside of the very recent or the end of each month listed, it’s not that easy to find older things. I came across this post somehow and when I came back to your website I almost thought it was the wrong one because I had a hard time finding the link (and therefore the name of it!)
October 17, 2016 at 12:04 pm
Thanks, Sarah! You’re right; Rev is doing a great job of making it easy for people to get started! It’s one of the things that I love about them and I think you’ll enjoy it as well. 🙂 Thank you for that suggestion; I’ll get to work on it soon! I definitely want to make my site as easy to navigate as possible! 🙂
October 16, 2016 at 10:19 pm
These are great ideas! Etsy is HUGE! Love this!
October 17, 2016 at 12:02 pm
Absolutely! Thanks, Adriana! 🙂
October 18, 2016 at 9:02 am
I miss bonfires so much! Living in an apartment is no fun…haha. But I do love making fall treats – apple pie, apple crisp….mmm!
October 18, 2016 at 9:27 am
Aw, that’s a bummer! But YES to apple anything! 🙂
October 18, 2016 at 11:39 am
Hikes are my faves!!
Allergic to apples, so I’ve been trying to find fall desserts/treats that are still fall-y without being apple!
October 19, 2016 at 9:07 am
Thanks, Casey! I love hiking too! 🙂 But allergic to apples??? How sad! 🙁
October 18, 2016 at 11:53 am
Fall hikes and baked goods are my FAVORITE! I just came up with a Paleo apple crumble 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 9:08 am
I’m with ya, Jenna!! Ooooh, that sounds good!
October 18, 2016 at 12:17 pm
Baking fall treats is one of my favourite fall things to do. Pumpkin carving and seeing a haunted house/corn maze/apple picking is another great way to create some fall memories <3
xo Jannine | http://www.happystylishfit.com
October 19, 2016 at 9:09 am
Mine too, Jannine! 🙂 Oh I do love corn mazes! And I’d love to go apple picking! 🙂
October 18, 2016 at 1:18 pm
This is such a great list! I’ve always left seasonal decorating for Christmas, but I definitely see how much fun it could add for other holidays as well. It’s about time for this family to hop all over that! 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 9:10 am
Thanks, Samantha! I’m not too good at decorating for fall, but my sister in law rocks it! I think it would be so fun! 🙂
October 18, 2016 at 9:13 pm
This post has me so pumped for fall! Thanks for sharing!
October 19, 2016 at 9:11 am
Thanks, Maggie! Me too! 🙂
October 18, 2016 at 9:23 pm
I’ve cooked with pumpkin a lot this month, but I’m also really an apple fan. Apple cider is my favorite. I loooove this list. It has everything on it that I want to do.
October 19, 2016 at 9:12 am
Thanks, Brittany! They’re my favorites, too! I’m not a huge pumpkin fan, but it definitely has its place! 🙂 I LOVE apple cider! 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 8:10 am
Love this, Abbey! The first sentence of this post sums up exactly how I feel about Fall too!
Taylor and I actually have a perfect spot for bonfires, and we need to have one. Unfortunately, the Fall weather keeps taunting us and them leaving us. It’s 85 today :/
October 19, 2016 at 9:13 am
Thanks, Kristin! Fall is so great! 🙂 I understand that; we’ve had a lot of warm weather too. It’s such a bummer!
October 19, 2016 at 10:16 am
Fall is our favorite time of year. It’s the one time we all gather to visit my parents in West Virginia so we definitely do festivals and bonfires then. It’s always so much fun!
October 19, 2016 at 10:40 am
Aw, that sounds so fun, Ashley! Fall is beautiful! 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 10:44 am
Baking is always a big fall must for our family. Getting everyone in the kitchen is priceless time together. Love your list!!
October 19, 2016 at 10:46 am
Thank you, Courtney! Family baking time is so much fun! 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 11:17 am
Great post! I hope to have a family fun day soon. Every Fall we make my husband’s grandmother’s pumpkin bread recipe. It is so delicious and it doesn’t last long!
October 20, 2016 at 9:51 am
Thanks, Elizabeth! I hope y’all have so much fun! 🙂 Oooooh, that sounds amazing!
October 19, 2016 at 12:54 pm
I love your decorating photo! So awesome!! I wish I had a spot for a bonfire! Bonfires are perfect for fall! One day! Great list!
October 20, 2016 at 9:52 am
Thanks, Angela! That was actually my sister-in-law’s decorating for Thanksgiving a few years ago; she’s really good at it! 🙂 And yes, bonfires are my favorite!
October 19, 2016 at 2:20 pm
Thank God, a realistic post on making a little extra cash. If I read one more post about blogging about something for money, I might scream. This list actually has things I can do without writing blogs to no one (because no one would read my blogs). Thanks for the tips!!
Haha, no problem, Bridget! 🙂 Blogging can make money, but there are definitely lots and lots of other options, and some of them are even better! 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 8:36 pm
I love this list! My husband and I try to do many of these things each year. Fall treats, bonfires, and giving thanks are nonnegotiable! We also try to go on a fall holiday each year, but this year we didn’t get to it.
October 20, 2016 at 9:53 am
Thank you, Brittany! That’s so great! A fall holiday sounds beautiful, but I’m sure you will still enjoy your time at home! 🙂
October 19, 2016 at 11:26 pm
We’ve already done a few of these including baking sweets together and a bonfire! Can’t wait to make more memories 🙂
October 20, 2016 at 9:54 am
Aw, that’s wonderful, Pam! Memories are a beautiful thing! 🙂
October 20, 2016 at 7:47 am
I LOVE decorating the house for Fall! The smells especially make me fell like it’s really Fall.
I completely agree, Ashley! The smells of fall are simply amazing! 🙂
October 20, 2016 at 9:37 am
That coaster is hilarious, and I know someone who would love the axe. I’m definitely going to refer back to this list as it gets closer to Christmas
October 20, 2016 at 9:55 am
Isn’t it?? I want it for myself! Haha I’m so glad it’s going to be useful for you, Jannine! Best of luck in your shopping! 🙂
October 20, 2016 at 9:57 am
FUN gifts!!! Gosh I struggle so much in figuring out gifts for my husband, but these are honestly off the beaten path of “typical” guy gifts that are usually really lame. That wood wallet *heart eyes*
October 20, 2016 at 10:00 am
Thanks, Joy! I’ve been in the same boat as you; that’s why I wanted to make a different kind of list! Yesss, the wood wallet! Amazing, right?? 🙂

Girl, I gotta admit, I love gadgets, too! Haha I want some of the stuff on this list! 🙂 Thanks, Cara!
October 20, 2016 at 11:51 am
I baked pumpkin spice snickerdoodles with my boyfriend a week or two ago and we had so much fun goofing off and ‘testing’ the dough. 😛 I really want to go to a pumpkin farm/apple orchard and I also want to build a bonfire. Those are all such quintessential fall activities 🙂
October 20, 2016 at 11:52 am
That sounds yummy and super fun!! 🙂 I’ve never been to an apple orchard, so I think that would be really fun! Thanks, Rachel! 🙂
October 20, 2016 at 1:05 pm
Love all of these suggestions! I live in Canada so thanksgiving has come and gone, but at the beginning of November my Boyfriend’s british family will be celebrating Guy Fawkes with a big bonfire and fireworks!
Haven’t been to market (yet) but those are fall memories ready to be made
October 20, 2016 at 1:27 pm

Our family does a “thankful” tree every november, where everyone in our house has to list things they are thnakful for everyday and we hang them up…It’s awesome! I agree, nothing beats a fall hike. We want to get out on another this weekend!
October 25, 2016 at 9:50 am

The adjustable dumbbells and the pizza cutter are genius, definitely on the list!

One Piece of Advice For A Beautiful Marriage – Small Town Soul
November 1, 2016 at 8:03 am
[…] and I have been married a little over 7 months. People say that marriage is hard, but we haven’t experienced that. We’ve been in difficult life situations, sure, but marriage is the good part of it. Even […]
November 1, 2016 at 1:15 pm
This is such a great reminder, Abbey and I completely agree. We don’t pray together every day, but I think making it a together-daily-habit is a wonderful idea. We try to read the bible and pray together but its sporadic. Thank you for the reminder of how important this is!
November 1, 2016 at 1:43 pm
Thank you so much, Kristin! I believe it’s something that has impacted our marriage in the best way, and I hope it does the same for y’all! 🙂
November 1, 2016 at 5:24 pm
What great advice…my husband and I have been married for nine years and we still don’t have this down. You are off to a great start! My best advice for engaged couples/newlyweds is usually regarding communication and conflict resolution. I think we have always done really well in this area. Thanks so much for sharing!
November 2, 2016 at 9:54 am
Thank you, Lori! I absolutely agree with your advice about communication; it is sooo important! 🙂
November 1, 2016 at 10:46 pm
We do not have this one figured out yet. It is great that you do. I am still super happily married. Fifteen years!! But seriously great foundation for you two to start on.
That is wonderful, Heather! Fifteen years is awesome accomplishment! What a beautiful journey! Thank you so much! 🙂
November 2, 2016 at 9:20 am
Love the reminder to pray together every night. It’s SO important to grow in faith together as a couple. Keep doing what you’re doing 🙂
November 2, 2016 at 9:53 am
Thank you, Leah!! Growing in faith is part of the sweet journey of marriage! 🙂
November 2, 2016 at 10:04 am
Hi Abbey! While I don’t agree that marriage isn’t hard (I think it’s one of the hardest things we’ll ever do, but the work is worth doing and the reward is so great!), I do agree that praying together each night is one of the best things a married couple can do. It protects us from going to bed angry and from falling out of touch with each other and it points us back to God! I know our nightly prayers are mostly expressing gratitude for the gifts of our day and I love this habit we’ve built our marriage on. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!!
November 3, 2016 at 9:04 am
That’s a beautiful thought, Jessica! Thank you so much! I absolutely believe that prayer is one of the best foundations for a marriage, and I’m so glad that you are seeing that in your marriage as well! 🙂
November 2, 2016 at 11:14 am
Such a beautiful message, Abbey! I’m glad to have read it 🙂 I completely agree that God is what holds a marriage together!
Thank you, Grady! 🙂 He is definitely the most important part of a marriage!
November 2, 2016 at 2:51 pm
I’ve been married for 8.5 years + together for 11. Eeek. I totally agree — I’ve always said life is hard, not marriage. The actually act of joining in union and living life with my husband has never been the hard part.
November 3, 2016 at 9:05 am
Aw, that is wonderful Catherine! 🙂 I agree that living life with my husband is the great part, not the hard part. Thank you so much! 🙂
November 2, 2016 at 6:01 pm
Glad you are enjoying newlywedded life! Our six anniversary is in a month and my husband and I would still say marriage is easy. 🙂 We like to have our prayer times together in the morning before he heads off to work.
November 3, 2016 at 9:06 am
Thank you, Rachel! 🙂 It is certainly a blessing! Aw, congratulations! Praying in the morning would be a wonderful way to start the day!
