13 Verses To Pray Over The New Year

January 5, 2017

A new year is full of new dreams, new goals, and new adventures! Though each adventure has its own beginnings, one thing that each of them must have in common is starting them with prayer and Scripture.

These verses to pray over the new year will start your year on the right foot!

A common theme in Scripture is that of newness. When we are saved, God makes us new, and His grace is constantly renewing us as we live our lives in tune with the Spirit.

As we celebrate the start of this new year, my heart has been reminded again and again of new beginnings and the excitement and promises that come with each one. The following 13 scriptures are ones that have touched my heart, and I hope they will do the same for you.

I encourage you to set aside a few minutes and go through these verses, praying each one over you, your family, and your life in the coming year. God has new and exciting plans for you this year, friend, and I pray that He will reveal them to your heart and that you will pursue them, and Him, with utmost passion and excitement. 🙂

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23

The Lord’s mercies are new this year. His compassion will never fail you. No matter what last year held, rest in that truth.

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” – Ephesians 4:22-24

Clothe yourself in God’s righteousness and holiness this year, setting out to become your new self in Christ.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

The old of last year is gone. The new is here. This year is just beginning!

Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” – Psalm 33:3

Praise the Lord this year with a new song in your heart. He is good and worthy of your praise!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” – 1 Peter 1:3

The Lord has made us new through the resurrection of Christ! Let us live out our new hope!

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 36:26

No more are we of the world, with a cold heart. We are of Christ, with His Spirit, and a heart full of His love!

“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.” – Psalm 40:3

Sing to the Lord, praise Him, so that everyone may see His works and trust His name!

Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.” – Psalm 96:1

Let us sing from the joy of our hearts and inspire others to know Christ.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:19

No matter the wilderness of last year, the Lord is making a new way, a new path, new streams; follow Him!

“Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of His faithful people.” – Psalm 149:1

Praise Him in community, in the assembly with other believers. Praise Him, for He is good!

See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.” – Isaiah 42:9

Last year happened, but new things are on their way! God is declaring that over you!

“Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for Him.” – Psalm 98:1

God has done a marvelous work in us, through salvation, and that is enough to praise Him!

“Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” – John 13:7

Be assured, God has a plan and He is working it out for your good! May that come to fruition this year, in Jesus’ name!

I love that all but one of these verses has the word NEW in them! Incredibly refreshing! My favorite is Ephesians 4:22-24! I need to remind myself daily to die to my flesh and walk in newness. I love how that Ephesians passage mirrors so perfectly with Colossians 3.

Thanks for the encouragement this morning!

Thank you for sharing! My husband and I already had a really tough start to our new year because of some bad news we received a few days ago, so we’re feeling pretty wiped, but thankful for these reminders and that God exists! We have hope in Him and we have faith that He’s walking with us and going before us!
