3 Reasons I Love Essential Oils
“What is she talking about? Essential oils? Oh geez, she must be one of THOSE. I’m outta here.” I hear you, friend. That was me a few months ago. I had several friends who used essential oils for everything under the sun, and I thought, “Sure, that works for them, but I’m not that crazy.” Well, I am officially that crazy now. 😉 Essential oils are a wonderful alternative to traditional medicine. They provide natural relief for a countless number of sicknesses and ailments, and they have made a huge difference in my health and the health of my family. Let me share with you 3 reasons I LOVE essential oils!

Reason #1: My Own Story
Somewhere in my teenage years, I developed severe seasonal allergies. After a few years of suffering through these allergies, I finally visited an allergist. She put me on four different medications: two in the morning, a nasal spray, and one before bed. In addition to that, I have asthma, so I had an inhaler to use before I run. And you know what? It worked! All the medication worked! My allergies were gone, I could breathe clearly, and it was great!
Until this past year. The medication was still working, but I suddenly became very uncomfortable with taking all these medications and not even knowing what was in them. Suffering through allergies wasn’t an option, and as I began thinking about and researching different alternatives, I came across essential oils and decided to give them a shot.
I ordered four basic essential oils: lemon, lavender, peppermint, and melaleuca (tea tree), along with coconut oil to use as a carrier. I began using my allergy blend between 3 and 5 times a day and … it worked! My allergy blend consists of lemon, lavender, and peppermint (4 drops of each), and I use coconut oil for the carrier oil. This is a basic allergy blend, but it completely relieves my allergies and I actually know what’s going into my body. That brings me to my next point.
Reason #2: Natural
Essential oils are natural. We use the Melaleuca brand oils, because we order all of our home and health supplies from them. Low-quality oils can actually be harmful to your health, so be sure to only order from a trusted and reputable source. For us, that’s Melaleuca. They have a wellness guarantee that they only use the highest-quality ingredients and they have been proven time and time again as a leader in natural and top performance products. (If you are interested in Melaleuca, comment or send me a message and I’d love to tell you more!) 🙂
When I was on allergy medication, I took four medications and an inhaler regularly. To be honest, I have no idea what was in those medications. With oils, I know exactly what I’m putting in my body. When I use my allergy blend, I know that I am putting lemon, lavender, peppermint, and coconut oil into my body. And because I use a company with a guarantee of high-quality products, I know that these ingredients are natural and do not contain any additives or anything that could harm my body.
Glorifying God in your body doesn’t just mean going to church; I think there’s more. I think God wants us to think about the food that we eat, our exercise habits, and what we put into our body. For me, taking a bunch of medication full of unknown chemicals wasn’t glorifying God in the best way I personally could. I’m now choosing to take care of my body, and I believe God is glorified through that.
Reason #3: MONEY
If you’ve ever shopped for essential oils, you know that the initial cost of oils can be high, but switching to essential oils has saved us money in multiple ways. First, when you use oils, you don’t use very much. For my allergy blend, I use 4 drops of lemon, lavender, and peppermint, and that one blend lasts me over a month. I also add oils to my diffuser, but only in 2 to 4 drop increments. There may be times when you use more oils, especially if you’re making things with them (soaps, cleaners, etc.), but generally speaking, one bottle will last for a few months. There are very few oils that I purchase more frequently than every six months, and most last me longer than that. I’ll also spend this much on oils because it’s nothing compared to traditional medicine. I used to spend over $50 on allergy medication every month, in addition to a $60 allergist visit every 6 months.Interested in trying essential oils?
