At the beginning of 2016, I created an insane challenge for myself: go 365 days without buying clothes (although technically, it was 366 since it was a leap year. Bonus points.). As I’ve said before, I’m not a new year’s resolutions kind of person, and I don’t generally create challenges like this for myself. I like myself the way I am, and unless God makes it clear as day, I don’t see a need for big changes in my life. So why did I go 365 days without buying clothes? How did I do it? What did I learn? Keep reading for those answers!
Welcome to 2017! It’s a new year, full of new dreams, new goals, and new adventures! 🙂 I started many new adventures in 2016: marriage, homemaking, pregnancy, and home-ownership, just to name a few. Though each adventure had its own beginnings, one thing that each of them had in common was that we started them with prayer and Scripture, and I believe that is what made each of them wonderful. To start 2017 in the best way, let’s follow the lead of our 2016 adventures and start it with prayer and Scripture. I want to share with you 13 verses to pray over the new year.
I’ve never been a New Year’s Resolutions kind of person. I tried calling them goals one year; I set 3 goals, accomplished 1, and threw the paper away sometime around June. 😉 As I was thinking about the coming year, one that will be filled with new adventures and excitement, I came across an idea that I like much better than resolutions: a focus word of the year. After talking to my husband and praying over it, we chose a word for 2017: intentional. Let me tell you a little bit about why we chose this word, how we’ll live it out, and how you can join us in living intentional in 2017!

I love Christmas! There are not enough songs and emojis and happy words to describe the joy in my heart during this sweet season. Christ has come to redeem us, and my heart is so full. Though I love literally everything about Christmastime, one of my favorite things is decorating! Lights on the house, ornaments on the tree, nativities everywhere you turn; it is just simply magical. But many of you are like me, which means you’re on a budget and can’t go spend hundreds of dollars at Hobby Lobby to deck out your house for the holiday season. But as the angel said to Joseph, “Fear not!” 😉 It is absolutely possible to transform your home for the holidays, even when you’re on a budget!
It is OFFICIALLY the Christmas season!!! 🙂 (I’ve been celebrating since the beginning of November, but don’t mind me.) 😉 Every week leading up to Christmas, I’ll be sharing a gift guide for a certain group of people (click here to see all the gift guides). All of us seem to have a few people that stump us every year, so I hope these gift guides will help you figure out what to get those people in your life! This week, I’ve got a special one up my sleeve; it’s a gift guide: for the whole family! 🙂
Winter is hard on our budget, to say the least. Whether you depend on electricity or gas for your heat, chances are your heating bills are through the roof. Paying a ridiculous amount for heat drives me crazy, but so does living in a cold house. So what do I do? I find alternative ways to stay warm! If you’re looking to lower your heating bill without freezing to death, try these 7 ways to stay warm without raising your heating bill. 🙂
I’m a list maker. I love lists. I have a list of blog posts that are coming, a list of baby items that we need, a to-do list for the day and the week, but somehow, I’ve never been the person to make a thankful list. To be honest, it seemed ridiculous; I know what I’m thankful for, so why do I need a list? But this year, my heart is just too full. It’s bursting with joy and thankfulness, and I just can’t keep it inside. So for the first time ever, here is what I’m thankful for.
It’s almost Thanksgiving! I love this time of year! The weather has finally cooled off, I’ve been making memories with my husband, families are coming together to celebrate, and everyone just seems a little bit happier. 🙂 But it’s also a crazy season for so many of us. We’re traveling across the state, trying to see both families, bringing food to different celebrations … It can be a little bit stressful. So before we jump head first into the Thanksgiving celebrations, I want to take a few moments to inspire thankfulness in your heart. We all have so much to be thankful for, and I want us to remember and reflect on that. Take a moment to breathe, and let’s look at 7 verses to inspire thankfulness.
