8 Powerful Verses To Pray Over Your Unborn Baby

Being a mom who prays is one of the most powerful tools that God has given us. We have the power to move mountains and to break strongholds. Praying over our babies when they are in the womb is powerful because it places God’s Spirit upon them before they are faced with the evil of the world.

Pray these verses over your baby before they are born!

I felt a great conviction to pray for my daughter while I was pregnant, but I didn’t always know what to pray. Having specific areas of her life to pray over, and Scriptures to go along with them, helped me to focus my prayers and lift up my baby girl before she was even born.

Pray God’s identity over them.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5

Pray an anointing upon them.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” – Isaiah 61:1

Pray protection over them.

If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” – Psalm 91:9-12

Pray your thankfulness for them.

“I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him.” – 1 Samuel 1:27

Pray these verses while you're pregnant!

Pray for them to have strength, courage, love and faith.

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Pray God’s blessing over them.

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26

Pray for their wisdom, joy, and contentment in the Lord.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” – Psalm 16:11

Pray that they would know the love of Christ.

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” – Ephesians 3:16-19

I wrote a similar post about a year ago about praying for your little one before conception and I’m glad to see others encouraging prayer for the babes. Congrats on your little one! Just reading this brought me such comfort, Abbey☺ I agree with you, I prayed over my son every day when I was pregnant with him and would thank God for giving me the opportunity to raise him up, knowing he is truly His and not mine. The morning after we found out we were pregnant, I turned on the TV and it was on the 700 club. Psalm 127:3 was posted and the first words I read were, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.” It brought us such comfort💛

  4. Jeremiah 1:5 was a favorite of mine that I read over and over with my 7th baby – who was born at 27 weeks, several weeks after my water broke due to PPROM. It was a nightmare, and I would have drowned in it if it weren’t for my faith and faith family. 🙂

  6. My mom always prayed for me constantly as a baby, and kid, and teenager, and now haha. I have always been so thankful for that!
    It’s important for us to realize that ultimately, God has the best plans and we may not always get exactly what we pray for, but we should still pray. God wants us to, and he knows how to give good gifts to his children.

  7. I prayed 1 Samuel 1:27 often during my last pregnancy because I experienced a lot of anxiety following a miscarriage. Now that I’m no longer pregnant, but looking at the responsibility of raising three Christ-followers, I love Psalm 16:11.

  9. I love this! My husbands mom once said she started praying for my husband’s future wife when he was 22. I remember thinking “i probably would have started earlier!”(we got married when he was 36)
